Panasonic 4k OLED TV

Panasonic's initial CES press conference wasn't exactly a resounding success. For while the brand seemed to be doing fine with normal, day to day products, it lacked the sort of chest-thumping next-gen products shouted about so loudly by most of its rivals. In particular, there wasn't even the slightest sniff of either an OLED or 4K/Ultra HD product.

Cut to the following morning, though, and that all changed in an instant. For at his keynote CES speech, Panasonic president Kazuhiro Tsuga suddenly unveiled a 56in screen that combined both OLED and 4K technology in one cool package.

Not surprisingly this prototype screen takes pride of place on Panasonic's booth on the main CES floor, greeting you as soon as you enter the hall. Also unsurprisingly, it produces some seriously mesmerising picture quality.

For starters, moving around it reveals practically no loss of contrast or colour even from fairly extreme viewing angles. This sort of inspection also reveals it to be a seriously attractive bit of kit, thanks to its apparently very high build quality and extremely thin rear - the latter being, of course, a near-universal OLED trait.

The native 4k demo reel being used to show the TV's performance off comprised a mixture of a Cirque de Soleil performance and some of the highly staged 'bright colours against a black backdrop' footage also routinely used by the likes of LG and Samsung to show off their OLED wares. And this all did a fine job of delivering on 4k OLED's three main messages: extraordinary image clarity, remarkably rich colours, and eye-popping black levels.

Samsung bagged seven accolades while Canon netted six at the second annual DL Awards, which focuses on products launched in the preceding year.

Digital Life (DL), the weekly tech magazine of The Straits Times, gave out 48 awards across 24 categories for items such as laptops, cameras and smartphones.

Microsoft Surface Pro fails to solve any problem for any user?

Don’t be fooled by Microsoft’s stodgy reputation. The company is an innovator willing to take huge risks on its most popular products. Vista, Xbox, Office’s ribbon interface, Kinect – all of these were huge risks that (eventually) paid off. Now, Microsoft is facing its greatest manufacturing challenge since the launch of the first Xbox console with its attempt to become a player in computer hardware.

First came the Surface RT, a small and inexpensive tablet that received mixed reviews; and now, the Pro. Though short for “professional,” the “Pro” moniker may as well stand in for “real PC.” Unlike the ARM-powered RT, our review unit was equipped with an Intel Core i5-3317U processor, 4GB of RAM, and a 64GB hard drive. Pricing starts at $899 but with the Type Cover, the final sum is $1,030.

Both the pricing and hardware appear competitive with a typical Ultrabook, yet the Surface Pro is anything but. The stand isn’t designed for use on a lap, so this isn’t a convertible. Instead it’s a tablet that can transform into a portable all-in-one. Can this unusual hybrid provide a real alternative to Ultrabooks and tablets?

Hot News from NOKIA : Nokia’s MWC 2013 line-up could include the Lumia 1000, Lumia 720 and Lumia 520

Nokia certainly has a new product or two to show us during Mobile World Congress, as it has called a press conference for February 25 at 9am; but what has it got hidden up its sleeve? Apart from the ongoing rumors of a Nokia tablet running Windows RT, there’s also the chance we’re going to be introduced to a few new Lumia Windows Phones.

Three different models have been leaked this week, and although details are limited, it could be our best hint yet at Nokia’s line-up. The first is the Lumia 1000, which has appeared in a menu on China Mobile’s computer system, but sadly in name only. As we’ve only got the name to go on, we’ll have to do some speculating.

All about Sony Playstation 4 (New release)

Since launching the original PlayStation all those years ago, Sony's machines have become synonymous with gaming. Here we check out all the latest news, rumours and speculation for the inevitable PlayStation 4

It was over 6 years ago that we first tasted Sony’s vision of the (then) next generation of gaming. The glossy black and chrome behemoth may have been pricey and slightly noisy, but it still won a place in our hearts.

As the years passed the console went on a diet, slimmed down and two revisions later we are left with the current PS3 Super Slim.

While the housing has changed, the internals have stayed the same and all these years after release were positively skipping with anticipation about what Sony is going to offer up next.

This is your complete guide full of news, rumours and everything we know so far about the Sony’s next attempt to invade your living room.

CES 2013: Samsung Shows Smart TV And Also, Ultra HDTV

Samsung has rolled up to CES 2013 with more gadgets and tech than you thought possible. The South Korean company took center stage at the annual tech show this afternoon to unveil everything from TVs to cameras, home audio gear, laptops and more.
But the real focus was on TVs. Joining Toshiba and Vizio, Samsung unveiled its own Ultra HD TV. For those who are new to this new phenomenon, Ultra HD TVs have four times the resolution of the current 1080p high-definition TVs. That means much crisper content.
"The focus at this show for us is TVs" David Steel, Samsung Vice President of North America, told ABC News.

Watch Video Here: Samsung's S9 UHD TV

The showstopper is certainly Samsung's Ultra HD offering -- the S9 UHD. It is being shown off with an 85-inch or 110-inch screen. Not only that, it looks like it is floating in its frame, since you can adjust the screen.
On the spec front, it has an up-scaling engine to bring HD content to Ultra HD level picture quality and Samsung's Precision Black pro technology, which makes blacks look even darker. The audio quality is also supposed to be top notch with 3-way 2.2 channels of 120 watt audio. Inside it has a quad-core processor so it can play such detailed pictures and sound, and also run Samsung's Smart Hub or app platform.
